Note: May is Masturbation Month... Here at PinkCherry, we would like to share some interesting facts to kick start masturbation month.

Have you ever wondered who holds the record for the longest masturbation session, how long humans have been historically masturbating, or what the world’s oldest masturbation device is? Read on to find out some of most interesting facts about America’s favorite pastime: masturbation.

1. According to Alfred Kinsey’s studies on male and female sexual practices during the 50s, 92% of men and 62% of women have masturbated during their lifespan. No doubt those numbers are much higher today.

2. Too young to masturbate? Perhaps not. Italian gynecologists Giorgio Giorgi and Marco Siccardi observed a female fetus via ultrasound “possibly” masturbating and having what appeared to be an orgasm.

3. Too old to masturbate? No way. One survey found that 72% of octogenarian men (over the age of 80) indeed masturbate, while over 50% can still maintain erections.

4. Masturbation myths are some of the oldest creations myths in history. Ancient Sumerians said that the Tigris River was created by the god Enki when he masturbated, spilling his seed and flooding the earth. The ancient Egyptians had a similar myth in which the god Atum created the universe by masturbating, then spewing out semen into the Nile. Reportedly, the ancient Egyptian Pharaohs would recreate this act by ceremonially masturbating into the Nile to encourage fertile crops.

5. There is evidence that Cave men masturbated. Prehistoric rock paintings around the world show depictions of men whacking their weenie.

6. The oldest masturbation tool ever found is a prehistoric dildo of polished siltstone from approximately 28,000 years ago. Found in a cave in Germany, the dildo is an impressive eight inches in length.

7. According to one survey, approximately 53% of women use vibrators during masturbation.

8. Another survey reports that approximately 44.8% of guys have reportedly used vibrators during sexual activities, either with their partners or on themselves.

9. The number one selling sex toy for men is the Fleshlight. According to the manufacturers over 4 million have been sold worldwide. For women it is a tie between the Hitachi Magic Wand (the Cadillac of Vibrators) and the Rabbit Habit, made popular by “Sex in the City”.

10. The World Record holder of the "Longest Time Spent Masturbating—Male" is Mr. Masanobu Sato from Japan, who masturbated for 9 hours and 58 minutes during the 2009 Masturbate-a-thon in San Francisco. The winner of "Longest Time Spent Masturbating—Female" was set by Ms. Kitty Kat, who masturbated for 7 hours and 6 minutes at the same event in 2008.

When used correctly, condoms are a highly effective method of preventing pregnancy and the transmission of most STDs including the HIV virus, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Trichomoniasis. Therefore, it is important to use a condom every time to limit yours and your partner’s exposure to these risks.

Before Using a Condom

Condoms come with expiry dates, as the latex in condoms degrade over time and break down, making them less effective. So be sure check the expiration date and don’t use one if it has expired.

The latex in condoms degrade over time due to exposure to heat, moisture, air, light, friction and changes in temperature. It is important to keep them in a cool, dry place for storage and it is not recommended to keep them in your wallet. However, if you must carry condoms in your wallet or purse, you should exchange them with new ones at least once a month, just to be safe. And, buy a condom case to store them in and keep them protected, many of which are slim and can fit in a wallet. When stored correctly, non-lubricated condoms should last about five years. Also, don’t rely on carrying just one condom in case it has been comprised and carry a few with you at all times.

Before use, check the condom for any tears, holes, dryness, brittleness or wear. Do not use if they have any of these defects. Make sure the condom package is well-sealed. Each package should have a pillow of air sealed inside.

With latex condoms, use only water-based or silicone personal lubricants that are specifically made for sexual intercourse. Do not use oil-based lubricants as they can break down the condom and cause bacterial infections in the vagina. Never use cooking oil, baby oil or petroleum jelly either, for the same reason.

How much do you really know about the penis? Most likely not as much as you think. Test your penis knowledge and learn some amazing facts about the most favorite part of a guy’s anatomy.

1. Bigger is Better?

Not necessarily. While the average penis size is approximately 3 ½ inches flaccid and 5 or 6 inches erect, that is more than enough length to satisfy a woman because the G-spot is only 1-2 inches deep. However, don’t forget that most women don’t orgasm from penetration alone, so paying close attention to their clitoris is way more important than the size of your dick. It’s all in the hands, fingers, lips and tongue and how you use it.

2. Still want a bigger penis?

Statistically, only 15 percent of men are over 7 inches, and only 3 percent are over 8 inches erect. The guy with the longest penis in the world, Jonah Falcon of Brooklyn, has a 13 and a half inch penis when erect, but still can’t get a girlfriend.

3. Are Erections Controllable?

Erections are controlled by the nervous system and can’t be controlled by thought. In fact, almost anything can cause an erection, and most men may get up to eleven erections a day and up to nine just while they are sleeping.

4. How do you Avoid E.D?

Erectile dysfunction is a condition in which a man can’t get or maintain an erection that is satisfactory for intercourse. There are many causes for this from performance anxiety and stress to high blood pressure, and it can happen to men of all ages. Ways to prevent ED include quitting smoking, avoiding excessive consumption of alcohol, regular exercise, avoiding illicit drugs and medications that inhibit erections.

5. Is Semen good for you?

Semen is good for you and contains lots of vitamins and minerals including Vitamin C, calcium, protein, and zinc.

6. How much sperm can a man produce a day?

A man can produce up to 150 million sperm a day, but ejaculate three times that amount when they come.

7. Don't Hold Back *Interesting Fact

An average man will ejaculate 7,200 times during his lifetime, which is approximately 14 gallons of semen.

8. How long does a Male Orgasm Last?

The average orgasm in men only lasts six seconds, but it can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour for them to be able to get an erection again. This is called the refractory period.

9. Is it Common for Men to Be Circumcised?

Only 30 percent of men worldwide are circumcised, but in the US 75 percent of men are circumcised, mainly for health reasons like the prevention of penile cancer, and to lower the transmission of STDs.

10. Can Men Have Multiple Orgasms?

It is not only women who can have multiple orgasms, but men can too. This is because ejaculation and orgasm are two separate physiological and psychological processes that can be controlled with practice by learning to “hold back”.

Most experts estimate that 1 in 4 couples engage in anal sex. But, if it is your first time exploring this erogenous zone, it is a good idea to start with something other than a penis. Why? Because, the person who is being penetrated cannot control the depth, rhythm or force of exertion. Even if you have a very thoughtful lover they may still become over-enthusiastic and the thin anal lining can be easily torn or damaged. Also, when exploring any type of sexual pleasure for the first time, it is a good idea to do it yourself via masturbation, or masturbation aided by your lover, as you will learn what feels good. In addition, the “virgin” rectum is fairly small and may not be comfortable with something as large as even a small penis inserted for the first time. Many sex experts recommend training your anus first before trying anal sex.

Sex Toys for Anal Play

Sex toys can help introduce you to anal play and ease your way into the experience. So what types of anal sex toys are good for beginners to start with?

Anal Beads

Anal beads are probably one of the least intrusive of the anal sex toy family. They are a long, slim, flexible “string of beads” usually starting with a small bead and gradually getting larger to allow your anus to slowly get used to the feeling of being penetrated. The best types of anal beads are those that are built out of one solid piece of silicone, jelly or rubber (with silicone being the best as it is non-porous and can be disinfected), rather than the beads on a string or nylon cord. The main reason for this is comfort. For a truly orgasmic experience, try slowly pulling the fully inserted anal beads out as you climax. Make sure the anal beads you choose have a retrieval ring so they don’t slide too far inside the anus.

Butt Plugs

Butt plugs are also a great anal beginner’s toy. They come in different sizes so be sure to start with a small, slim one to begin. Butt plugs also come in kits of different sizes, so you can “train” your anus to accept larger ones over time. Butt plugs are meant to be inserted and then worn in the anus for a certain period of time. What is great about butt plugs is that you can wear them during vaginal sex or masturbation to enhance the whole experience. Often butt plugs will pop out during orgasm as the sphincter contracts and pushes it out. Many butt plugs also vibrate or are ribbed or bulbous for additional stimulation. Make sure the butt plug you choose has a proper flanged base so they can’t slip inside.

Anal Probes

Anal probes feature bulbous bumps (like anal beads) on a long thin probe. They are a bit sturdier than anal beads and allow for firmer insertion and thrusting. Probes are great for prostate play or stimulation of the P-spot, as the bumps rub against the gland in a pleasurable way. Many anal probes also vibrate which makes them more versatile than anal beads.

P-spot Massagers

P-spot (or prostate) massagersare similarly designed to that of anal pacifiers, but usually made of harder materials like ABS plastic. ABS plastic is an excellent choice of materials for anal toys as it is hard, smooth and non-porous (so easily sanitized). Many P-spot massagers feature a bulbous head, thin stem and wide handle. These are used with a rocking motion, rather than an in and out motion. Some can be used hands-free by using the contractions of the pelvic and anal muscles. Others have small extensions that stimulate the perineum (the area between the balls and anus, or vagina and anus) as well as the P-spot at the same time.

Lube, Lube, Lube

Anal lube is the butt’s best friend. The anus does not self- lubricate and therefore lots of lube is essential for anal play. Silicone lubes work well because they are super slippery, while some people prefer a thicker water-based gel. Oil-based lubes work well for anal play too (as long as it doesn’t go near the vagina) and are very popular.

Using a condom incorrectly can lead to breakage, slippage, or leakage. Use a condom correctly to avoid the transmission of STDs and to avoid pregnancy.

Open the condom packet carefully to avoid tearing the condom. Do not use teeth, fingernails or scissors to open. That is why they have the zigzag seals that make them easy to tear open.

Use a condom each and every time you have sexual intercourse with someone you are not “fluid-bonded” with, during vaginal, anal sex and male oral sex (fellatio) from start to finish to protect against STDs. The most common mistake people make is to use a condom AFTER sexual activity has already started. So before penetration (vaginal/anal/oral) put it on. If you don’t use one, you are unprotected against the exchange of bodily fluids which transmits sexually transmitted diseases.

Never reuse a condom. You would think this is obvious, but people still do it. So use a new unopened condom every time you have sex regardless whether it is with the same person or someone else. If, for some reason your remove the condom before ejaculation, use a new one before continuing intercourse. Condoms are cheap. Your health is priceless.

Do not use the same condom with multiple partners. Again, the same goes. Use a new condom with each new partner even if you are having sex with multiple partners at once.

Do not put a condom on inside-out as it is more likely to tear or slip during intercourse. This is one of the most common mistakes when using a condom. The condom rolled up rim should be on the outside and should fit over the head of the penis like a cap.

How to Put on a Condom

Apply a small amount of lubricant inside the condom at the tip. This will help prevent breakage, will make the condom more comfortable and will increase sensitivity. It also makes the condom easier to slip on and provides a better fit.

If you are uncircumcised, pull back the foreskin when putting on the condom. This will prevent pulling for the foreskin, will aid in sensitivity and help create a proper fit.

Place the rolled-up condom (rolled rim out) over the erect penis head, gently pinching the reservoir tip to remove any air. If the condom doesn’t have a reservoir tip, leave a half-inch space for ejaculate. The condom should fit over the penis head like a little cap, tolled brim out.

Hold the tip of the condom, while gently unrolling the entire condom down the length of the penis to the base, smoothing out air bubbles as you go to maintain a proper fit and avoid tearing during penetration.

Choose a small amount of water-based or silicone personal lubricantto apply to the tip of the condom on the outside to aid in penetration and to avoid breakage.

If the condom breaks, withdraw immediately and throw away. Use a new condom.

Removing a condom properly is just as important as putting it on properly and is one of the most common mistakes when using a condom. After ejaculation before the penis becomes soft, hold the condom at the base to withdraw, ensuring the condom doesn’t slip off in your partner’s vagina (or anus/mouth). Gently peel the used condom down and remove from the penis head, keeping the semen inside.

Do not flush condoms down the toilet. Dispose of them wrapped in a tissue and placed in a garbage can.

Condoms work when used consistently and correctly. Both men and women should learn how to use condoms correctly and use them every time they engage in vaginal/penis sexual intercourse, oral sex or anal sex.

Tantric Sex

During Tantric sex, practitioners recommend that you try to extend your lovemaking for long periods of time, building to the peak of arousal, and then backing off, to build again to another peak. This type of lovemaking allows men and women to build to more exquisite orgasms that can last longer, be multiple in number and much more satisfying. Using sex furniture will allow the penetrating partner to engage in deeper, harder, more forceful thrusting facilitating more pleasure for both partners. When you get tired you can relax back and enjoy slower, more intimate love making. Then repeat the cycle until both of you climax.

Best Positions for G-spot Orgasms

Missionary position is not ideal for targeting the G-spot. Instead, try some of these positions with accommodating sex furniture and shapes.

Doggie Style

One of the most effective positions for G-spot stimulation, this position can be paired with the Liberator Wedge, Jaz Mini, or BonBon, so the female partner can support her pelvis by keeping her back end high and back arched, to allow targeted penetration. In this position the man’s penis will rub against the upper wall of the vagina where the G-spot is located when thrusting downward.

Cowgirl

Girl on Top offers one of the best positions for G-spot stimulation, because of the positioning itself, as well as the woman can control the depth of penetration. The man should be lying back (back supported by the Liberator Ramp and knees supported by the Whirl) with the woman straddled on top, arms behind her. She can then rock herself on his erection as it rubs her G-spot.

Flower Press

This position is a bit of a twist on the old missionary one, and is excellent of heavier set partners. The woman lies back (using the Ramp/wedge combo to support both the back and the rump/hips). Once the man penetrates her, she raises her legs and rests them on his chest. This position allows for the deepest type of penetration and allows the man to rub his penis against her G-spot.

Reverse Cowgirl

This is the reverse of Girl on Top (Cowgirl) and the man assumes the same position as Cowgirl (using the Axis under his behind to lift his pelvis), except the female sits on top with her back to him. She then leans forward and holds his knees, as she gyrates on top. Again, the woman is completely in control in this position and can set the pace and the depth of motion.

Oral Sex is Better with Sex Furniture

Sex furniture offers many various combinations of sexual positions to enjoy oral sex. No more cramped necks, aching knees, and the person receiving can get very comfortable with their genitals up and aligned in the perfect receiving position. While sex shapes don’t cure “lock jaw”, they will help by supporting the neck and back during oral sex.

Sex Shapes are Fun!

Sex furniture and sex shapes are great accessories to get you started in all kinds of new positions. They are so versatile that many of them can be used in multiple ways, or paired together for extra support. Liberator sex shapes come in various colors and even Safari patterns to give your bedroom a sexy jungle theme. Try them alone or together as you experiment.. Also, check out some of our Fetish Fantasy Sex Furniture for more affordable inflatable shapes.

Not All Condoms are Created Equally—Which Condom is Right for you?

When used correctly, condoms are a highly effective method of preventing pregnancy and the transmission of most STDs including the HIV virus, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Trichomoniasis. Therefore, it is important to use a condom every time to limit yours and your partner’s exposure to these risks.

How to Choose a Condom

Condoms come in various sizes, and it is important to choose the correct size. Too tight and the condom may break. Too loose and the condom may slip off during sex.

Condoms come in varying degrees of thickness and textures. For men who find condoms cause a loss in sensation, there are now condoms available that are super thin and allow for greater sensitivity. For women, there are condoms that are ribbed, studded and curved or rippled to provide added sensation and pleasure. So not only will condoms promote safe sex, they can also enhance the sexual experience.

Condoms come in different shapes. Most condoms feature a reservoir tip which is designed to hold semen after orgasm and prevent breakage from bursting. A comfort fit condom is designed to provide movement around the head of the penis which aids in sensitivity for the man.

Condom Materials

Most condoms are made from latex and are the choice for most people. However, people who have latex allergies can choose Polyurethane condoms, which are made with plastic and are more expensive. Both types work equally well when used correctly.

Lambskin condoms (also known as natural condoms) are made from the intestinal membrane of a lamb and can be used for contraceptive purposes to prevent pregnancy. However, the small pores in lambskin condoms make them ineffective in protecting against STDs because the viruses can enter through these pores. Lambskin condoms are also more expensive than latex condoms.

Lubricated or non-lubricated, that is the question?

Condoms come in lubricated and non-lubricated formulas. Lubricated condoms can use either silicone or water-based lubricants. Lubrication aids in sensitivity, makes the condom easier to put on and can help prevent breakage. It is therefore important to use lubrication when using a condom, whether you choose a lubricated or non-lubricated type.

Choosing lubricated or non-lubricated condoms is a personal choice and depends on the type of sex you plan to have. For oral sex, lubrication is often unwanted because of the taste. During vaginal sex, lubrication is often provided from the woman’s own natural wetness so additional lubrication may not be necessary. During anal sex, lubrication is necessary; however, you will need to add more lubrication that what is provided by a lubricated condom.

Many people prefer to add their own favorite type of lube with a non-lubricated condom. With latex condoms, use only water-based or silicone personal lubricants that are specifically made for sexual intercourse. Do not use oil-based lubricants as they can break down the condom and cause bacterial infections in the vagina. Never use cooking oil, baby oil or petroleum jelly either, for the same reasons.

Nonoxynol-9

Nonoxynol-9 (or N-9) is a spermicide whose purpose is to aid in preventing unwanted pregnancies. It is sometimes added to lubricated condoms, so it is therefore important to make sure you read the ingredients on the condom package. Nonoxynol-9 has been shown to irritate the cells in the vagina or rectum which could potentially increase the risk of getting an STD or an infection, including increased chances of getting the HIV virus. Studies have shown that condoms with spermicides are no more effective at preventing pregnancy than other condoms (lubricated or non-lubricated). Spermicides do not protect against the transmission of STDs and could actually increase that risk. And, finally, spermicidal condoms cost more and have a short shelf live. Most sexologists warn against the use of Nonoxynol-9 and many condom manufacturers do not use N-9 anymore. However, it is always important to read the labels and check.

Flavored Condoms

CherryMangoKiwi

Condoms come in many different flavors from fruity to vanilla, to chocolate and mint, and are great for enhancing oral sex on men, otherwise known as fellatio. However, most flavored condoms contain sugars or other ingredients that can cause yeast infections during vaginal sex and other types of irritation during anal sex. They should therefore only be used for oral sex.
