Strap-On Sex Harnesses For Couples

As with most topics we get into in these little blogs of ours, we think it’s generally best to start from the beginning! So, here goes. What’s a strap-on? Or a harness, for that matter? First off, the terms are often used interchangeably or together, ie: strap-on harness. A strap-on is, by definition, a wearable sex toy usually used to penetrate a partner. They can be used for sex between partners of any gender or identity, pegging and other anal endevours, role-play...the list goes on. They can also be used for packing, to help with erectile issues, and to make double penetration dreams come true. We’ve probably left some strap-on possibilites out, but our point is that strap-ons are super-versatile and have a ton of sexy uses.

What’s My Strap-On Style?

The harness style strap-on is probably the most common and recognizable style of strap-on. A dildo, vibrator or probe is attached to a belt and series of straps that fit over waist and hips. That being said, there are definitely other options, like the Accommodator, which fits over your or your partner’s chin and is used for penereation during oral sex, and the thigh strap-on, which is worn on - you guessed it - a thigh. But wait, there’s another option too! The strapless strap-on doesn’t include any straps at all. A strapless strap-on is held in place by the wearer’s pelvic floor or sphincter muscles, usually by way of a curvy bulb that stimulates the g-spot and other internal sweet spots. Meanwhile, the opposite end extends outward, ready to penetrate a partner. The Rechargeable Love Rider is a great example of strapless done right.

When it comes to shopping for a new harness or strap-on, performance and style matter, of course, but how it makes you feel is important, too. Both partners need to be comfortable and feel sexy, mentally and physically. Sometimes, a cute pair of harness briefs with a beautifully curved dildo can be enough to inspire a person to buy, only to realize that what was perfect for them might not have been as ideal for their partner. What’s the solution? Talk about it! Then, shop together.

To help you determine which strap-on styles may be best for your sexy purposes, here are a few key things to consider.

Some Strap-On Scenarios

Strap-ons are considered a regular and often integral part of sex for lesbian couples, but as we already mentioned, people of all genders and orientations use and enjoy them. As with most things when it comes to sex, the variables that determine what any individual and their lover find most pleasurable are wide-ranging.

One very popular strap-on spin-off that’s been getting a lot of attention lately is the act of pegging. Pegging is when a (usually) femme-identified person wears a strap-on in order to penetrate her (usually) anatomically male partner anally. Straight up, one of the best pegging sets our customers rave about is the Real Skin Whoppers 6 1/2 Inch Dildo with Harness. You’ll find more great options as we go along, but we just wanted to give you a sneak peak at what’s to come.

People with penises also can (and do!) wear strap-on dildos. This can be for medical reasons, sexual enhancement, simple preference or desire for novelty.  Some strap-on dildos are specifically designed to fit over a penis, in fact, like the Fetish Fantasy Hollow Strap On in Flesh.

If you’re into double penetration, the Menage a Trois Strap-On and Dildo Set is a great way for a couple to experiment without inviting another sexual partner into the mix.

There are lots of other sexy situations that might benefit from a strap-on, too, and as long as they’re pleasurable for both partners, consensual and healthy, we’re here for them!

What Toys Play Well With Strap-Ons & Harnesses?

First off, many strap-on dildo harness styles come with different sizes of O-rings (toy connection points) to allow for the use of a variety of dildos, plugs, probes, vibrators and beyond. At PinkCherry, we always try to note the size of the included O-ring or rings. As long as the toy you’re looking to use has a flared or flanged base and fits though the O-ring, you’re usually good to go. Measure the widest point of your toy to be sure.

If you’re not into measuring, there’s another option! One of the best interchangeable sex toy lines on the market is Doc Johnson’s Vac-U-Lock series. This line is unique because it relies on a riveted plug, interlocking within a hole at the base of various toys, creating an incredibly secure hold. The airtight grip of the plug holds the dildo or vibrator firmly in place so it doesn’t wobble while wearing. This is an especially nice feature when switching positions or engaging in more robust and athletic strap on play. The plug holds tight so you and your partner can totally let go. The only bummer about the line is that plugs don’t work with any dildo or vibrator that doesn’t have the necessary hole, but Vac-U-Lock toys will often work with other harnesses as long as the O-ring size fits the diameter of the shaft. This line is also ridiculously big (in terms of variety, not dildo sizes… although some of them are quite large!) so you have lots of mix and match options. If you love a one-and-done option and want to try this strap-on harness line, consider investing in one of the Vac-U-Lock Harnesses Sets.

Brief Style Dildo Harnesses

Brief Style Pegging Sex Strap-On Harness

At PinkCherry, we have a special affinity for brief-style harnesses because as you may know, we love lingerie and underwear. You might even say we have a bit of a panty fetish! That said, there’s more to choosing the right harness than just figuring out how great it will make your butt look- but that’s definitely going on the pro list. Some might prefer a more feminine look, like the red and black lace Scandal Crotchless Pegging Panty Set, with delicate bows in front and seductive open back, ooo la la! This is a seriously cute option for both giving and receiving strap-on anal play.

If you prefer more masculine, sleek and comfortable designs, then you may want to start with either the EM.EX. Contour Harness or EM.EX. Fit Harness styles from Sportsheets. They can be worn all day and the poly/spandex blend makes them breathable and pleasurable to sleep in. They have another really cool feature you might also like- they happen to be perfect for strapping in a nice dildo and making your partner orgasm. Another style of brief that is tasteful, wearable, and has an ideal entry-level price point, are the Temptasia Harness Briefs.

A brief style dildo harness may look simple, but wearing one can feel incredibly empowering and arousing. Generally, this type of strap-on is easy to slip on and off (hot!) and securing your penetrating toy through the opening around front is quick and easy. There’s nothing sexier than a partner who knows how to handle their equipment! The one possible con of a brief style strap-on is that it may not hold up to some of the more weighty dildos and vibes out there. You should be good with most average toy sizes and weights, though!

To Sum it All Up

We said it earlier, but we’ll say it again as an end point to today’s strap-on journey: there all all kinds of strappy scenarios out there, and they’re all ready to be explored. No matter what your strap-on need(s) may be, there’s one or three for you.
