A Beginner’s Guide to Pegging

A Beginner’s Guide to Pegging

Pegging became mainstream when it was the focus of an episode on the sitcom Broad City, but for those of you who aren’t familiar with the term, it’s a sexual practice where a woman performs anal penetration on a man using a strap-on dildo

Considerations for Beginners

So, you want to give pegging a try. There are a few things to think about before you jump right in.

1. Poop may happen.

Even with anal cleansing, there is still a possibility that feces may be a part of your sexual experience, which is perfectly natural.

2. Are you worried about what your partner might think?

According to my recent search on Google Trends, searches about gay husbands ranked higher than straight and bisexual ones by over 75 percent. However, considering pegging is an excellent opportunity to have a frank conversation with your partner about your desire to try new sexual activities.

3. Are you just following a trend, or do you really want to try anal sex?

Trends can have a magnetic pull. Before making snap decisions, consider looking inside yourself and see what type of new sexual experience you are truly seeking.

Start with a Conversation

I find that communication is essential for both partners to get in sync with each other and their relationship. I know – it’s hard! But speaking with your partner about your sexual desires and new things you would like to try can open the door to new pleasures.

Try to be honest, don’t be judgmental, and keep the conversation light to start. Let your partner know that you trust them and know they trust you back.

You never know, perhaps your partner has been wanting to try pegging as well!

First Things First

Be prepared to get better acquainted with your backside.

If this is your first venture into anal pleasure, I suggest starting with your partner’s well-lubed finger to get used to the feeling have having something inserted anally.

Quick Tip! Make sure fingernails are short and smooth.

Next, consider a small, slender anal plug with a tapered tip. Beginner anal plugs are great for initial experimentation.

Quick Tip! Always use plenty of lubricant and never force anything into your rectum. Take it nice and slow.

Perhaps having a small anal plug inserted during sex play with your partner is just the thing to heighten sensual feelings. Often, people don’t realize how pleasurable anal play can be until they give it a try.

It’s time to choose the size and shape of anal dildo that you would like to try for pegging. There are many shapes and styles, including versions specifically made to stimulate the prostate gland, which is a highly erogenous area.

Quick Tip! Start small. Even if you may be tempted to try a girthy, lengthy dildo right off the bat, it’s best to work up to larger sizes.

Next, your partner needs to decide the best strap-on harness for her. There are versions with straps, hence the name, and others that fit like a boy-short. There are even harnesses that will provide her with vibration stimulation she can enjoy. Really, it’s all about comfort and personal preference.

Pegging Day Has Arrived!

Finally, after conversations, fingered anal play, and trying a beginner’s anal plug—the time has arrived for your first foray into pegging. There are a few things to keep in mind that can make your experience more comfortable.

3 things to have on-hand:

  • Plenty of anal lube
  • A willingness to communicate with your partner
  • Knowledge of the best sex position for beginner pegging

First, while there are a lot of lubricants out there, using a lubricant created for anal play should provide you with extra cushion during penetration.

Remember to have communicated with your partner your own expectations.

Plus, know that there is an ideal beginner’s pegging position that will allow you to be in control of the experience.

The Best Beginner’s Position for Pegging

Although you often see people on all fours pegging, this position can tense the buttock muscles, which may make penetration less comfortable, especially for beginners.

My go-to tip, especially for beginners, is to have the receiving partner back up onto their partner’s dildo. This way the receiving partner can be in control of the speed, depth, and movement.

You should be able to comfortably control penetration speed—slowly or quickly—and focus on what feels good to you as the receiver.

Also, laying on your side with your legs bent at the knees and pulled forward slightly is the best position for rectal muscles to be totally at ease. Try a spooning position where the receiving partner backs upthis may be the most comfortable option for a first timer.

Anal Aftercare

Did you just have your first anal orgasm?

Many couples have found that they both have stronger orgasms with anal sex play and discover their bodies are very responsive to pegging. Pegging can be a way to share sex play experiences that are intense and bonding for both partners.

Be aware, in addition to enjoying some new sensations, you may also be a bit sore.

Be gentle with your clean up. Using toy and body cleaner wipes can provide immediate cleaning, but also consider a shower or bath. Epsom salts in a warm bath has been used since the 17th century to soothe hemorrhoids and can also calm anal irritation and soreness.

And, just because your first pegging experience is complete, remember to keep communication open and honest with your partner. Give yourself a few days to process your feelings and emotions. Then, discuss with her how pegging made you feel and if you’d like to try it again. Ask her how the experience was for her as well.

Even if pegging isn’t your favorite version of anal play, there are plenty of other backdoor toys available to try.
